About
Ratna Sarkar has been the Vice Provost for Institutional Research and Analytics since January 2016. She is thrilled to lead an enthusiastic team that takes pride in its mission to generate information for our community and insights to support strategic and operational decision processes.
Before coming to Hopkins, Ratna led Rice University’s office of institutional research for four years. Prior to her work in institutional research, she was associate dean for global initiatives in Rice’s school of engineering, where she developed pathways for international experiences and enhanced professional education programs. She also was a lecturer at Rice’s Jones Graduate School of Business.
Dr. Sarkar earned her undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and an MS in Computer Science, an MBA and a PhD in business management from Stanford University. She has served as a consultant at McKinsey and Co., and was an assistant professor and research fellow at the Harvard Business School

Liz Cronin joined Johns Hopkins Engineering in 2015 and has been a member of OIRA since September 2016. In addition to managing the IR data warehouse, she oversees the Institutional Research function of the office and provides leadership to its staff through day to day operations. This includes the coordination and management of internal/external reporting, ad hoc data requests, special projects/decision support, and close collaboration with other JHU offices to serve the institutional reporting and business intelligence needs of the university.
Liz holds a Master of Arts in Experimental Psychology and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Towson University.

Gil Bismut

Gil Bismut joined the Office of Institutional Research in February 2018. Before joining, Gil worked for the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine analyzing demographic and serological data for The HOPE in Action Study, which successfully coordinated the world’s first HIV+ to HIV+ liver transplant. Gil is the Tableau, R and Python expert in our office along with the web designer.
Lauren Jones-Lush

Lauren Jones-Lush joined the Office of Institutional Research in December 2018 from Goucher College where as the Research Intelligence Analyst, she was the IR lead for data integration, reporting, and analytics. Before moving to IR, Dr. Jones-Lush served as a software engineer, a faculty member at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and the Director of Academic Affairs at the Maryland Higher Education Commission.
Lauren holds a BA in Computer Science from Wesleyan University and a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
Brandon Groff

Brandon Groff joins us from the Walt Disney company in Florida where he was an HR Functional Analytics graduate associate analyst intern on the People Insights & Analytics team, and evaluated Disney’s training initiatives utilizing surveys and other corporate databases. He has institutional research experience from Inver Hills Community College and also from University of Wisconsin-Stout where he earned his MS in Applied Psychology. His undergraduate degree is in Psychology from the Metropolitan State University of Denver where he also gained experience in Human Resources as an intern.
Kait Wood

Kait Wood joined the Office of Institutional Research in July 2022 as a JHU Presidential Management Fellow. Prior to joining the OIR team, Kait was a doctoral student at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and an active member of the JHSOM student body. They lead the JHSOM Graduate Student Association during the 2019-2020 academic term, worked as the Communications Chair for the Johns Hopkins Science Policy Group, and served as Community Outreach Chair with the Biomedical Scholars Association.

Kait earned their Ph.D. in Human Genetics and Molecular Biology from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and their B.S. in Biochemistry from Gonzaga University.
Terry Kim

Terry Kim transitioned to the Office of Institutional Research from UNC-Pembroke, where he served as a System Analyst. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, computer science, and information technology from UNC-Pembroke. Furthermore, he holds an MBA from UNCP, a master’s in accountancy from the University of North Alabama, and a master’s in business analytics from UNC-Willington. Currently, Terry is pursuing a master’s in finance and investment management. He is a certified public accountant in North Carolina and also holds a Certified Information System Auditor certification. Terry has served in the 82nd Airborne Division.

Laura Michael joined the Office of Institutional Research and Analytics in 2024. She was introduced to the field of Institutional Research as Business Intelligence Research Analyst at Loyola University Maryland after gaining experience in Higher Education as Data Analyst at Duke University Executive MBA Admissions. Previously, she held various engineering roles at General Motors Assembly and Powertrain operations in Baltimore.
Laura earned an M.B.A. from Loyola University Maryland and a B.S. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Virginia Tech.
