Data Dictionary

Academic Year: Combination of Summer, Fall, and Spring terms in that order (e.g., Summer 2019, Fall 2019, Spring 2020). Divisions on non-semester schedules approximate the same total date range.
Admit rate: Count of admitted students divided by the number of applications.
CIP: Classification of Instructional Programs, the federal taxonomy of academic higher education programs. Used to differentiate programs in JHU data sets.
Completed: (in R-A-C statistics) Graduated with a doctoral degree in the original program of study (measured by headcount).
Degree awarded: Individual records of achievement denoted by name (e.g., Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science). Does not account for double majors under the same degree (e.g., BS in Biology and Chemistry).
Doctorate-Professional: Doctorate degree in a specific profession (at JHU, Medicine, Nursing)
Doctorate-Research: Doctorate degree placing emphasis on dissertation or other types of research (e.g., PhD, EdD)
Domestic: US Citizens and Permanent Residents
Enrolled (on campus): In PhD Statistics dashboard, denotes an active student taking classes on campus. To be contrasted with students on Non-Resident status.
Enrollment: In most contexts, a headcount of enrolled students in a data dashboard. 
FTEFull-Time Equivalent, a metric calculated by the number of Full-Time individuals + (the number of Part-Time individuals divided by 3).
Full-Time (Student): Categorization of a student by the number of credits in an academic period (which is defined by the division or program itself). Can change over time.
Full-Time (Faculty): Categorization of a faculty member as a Full-Time employee per payroll system
Gender: Binary sex of a person
Headcount: Distinct count of individual students. To be contrasted with FTE.
International: Citizenship is not the United States
Left with master’s: (in R-A-C statistics) Began as doctoral student but did not finish doctoral degree; instead, left with a master’s degree in that field

Majors earned: Cumulative count of majors that graduating students declared; there can be more than one major per degree earned
Non-Traditional: (in Registration Report) Non-degree-seeking and certificate-seeking students
Non-URM: US Citizen or Permanent Resident who is not an underrepresented minority
U.S. NR: United States Nonresident (International)
Part-Time: Categorization of a student by being enrolled in less than the defined number of credits designated for full-time status. Can change over time.
Part-Time (Faculty): Categorization of a faculty member as a Part-time employee per payroll system
R-A-C: Retention-Attrition-Completion statistics
Retained: Status of a student continuing in a program. Retained includes students on leave of absence.
Second week Census: Enrollment report taken at the second week of the fall semester, known as the census date.
TTDC: Time to degree conferral, calculated by subtracting the degree start date from the degree conferral date. Used for all divisions except Medicine.
TTDRC: Time to degree requirements complete, calculated by subtracting the degree start date from the degree requirements complete date. Used for School of Medicine only.
URG: Underrepresented Groups. Includes the following racial categories: Hispanic, Black or African American, American Indian or Alaskan Native, or Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander
USPR: US Citizens and Permanent Residents. Interchangeable with Domestic.
Withdrew: (in R-A-C statistics) A student who has withdrawn from their program of study or was otherwise terminated.
Year: Refers to the year of the fall term in the academic year. For example, 2019 refers to Fall 2019 and the Academic Year 2019-20.
Yield rate: Count of matriculated students divided by the number of admitted students; the proportion of admitted students who made the decision to attend JHU
